The Secret to a Good Score
There are a number of key holes at Rancamaya Golf & Country Club, that if not shown the respect that they deserve will ruin even the best golfers score card. The first two holes on my list are the 1st and the 10th. Both holes are very short par 4s but I have seen many golfers fall foul of the O.B. which runs down the whole of the left hand side of the first and the right hand side of the 10th, plus the water to the right of the 1st. Almost every golfer that comes to play at Rancamaya stands on either the 1st or the 10th tee and takes out their Driver, it is as if they look at the flag and think that they can reach the the green from the tee but take it from me........they can not. |

It is very important in golf that you start your round with a good score on the first hole, as this will often dictate how
the rest of your game will play. All players who have a handicap of 14 or more receive a shot on both the 1st and 10th, so the smart play would be to use an Iron from the tee on both holes ( 3 or 4 iron ) for possition. As both holes play downhill your drive will travel a little further so a shot of around 180 – 200 yards will leave a reasonably short second shot to the green. Players who find the green in two will have the opportunity to put for a birdie ( 2 puts for par at worse ), and players who miss the green will still gave a very shot chip and a chance of a par ( 2 puts for a net par ) which has got to be better than starting your round with a 6 or 7 on your card......or even more. |

4th Hole
|
| The 4th hole is stroke index 1, and for good reason. Although the fairway is reasonably wide there is O.B. on both the right and the left, so the tee shot still needs to be an accurate one. For golfers with a handicap of 10 or more this hole should be played as a par 5, as every member receives a shot on this hole a 5 is a very good score ( net par 4 ). To reach the green in two from the Championship tee will require 2 long and very accurate shots, so there really is no point in trying to hit your Driver as hard as you can in the hope of getting lucky because all you do is increase the chance's of the ball going O.B. and putting a big number on your card. Three comfortable Iron shots will get you on the green quite easily and still give you a put for your par (or 2 puts for a net par), which will send you to the half way hut for a well earned break feeling pleased with yourself. |
